The house "Ramon Peña" based in Ribadumina, Galicia, can look back on a history of more than 90 years: Founded in 1920 by José Peña Oubiña in Cambados in Galicia, the company is now managed by the third generation of Nely Concheiro. Their business is the production of premium, additive-free canned fish and seafood from the rias (fjords) of Galicia that enjoy worldwide popularity. It is the only company in its sector to be protected by the “Pesca de Rías” trademark, which guarantees the origin and quality of the product.
Ramon Peña's declared goal is to get gourmets and restaurateurs all over the world to rethink. Therefore, only freshly caught fish of the respective season are used and everything is done by hand, apart from the sealing and labeling of the cans. The combination of the best ingredients, old traditional recipes and meticulous quality control results in products of absolute top quality that are completely convincing.

The best mussels in Europe

Mussels from Galicia is a protected designation of origin (“Mexillón de Galicia”) since January 1st, 2007. These mussels of the species Mytilus galloprovincialis are the first sea product to be awarded this European Union label.
Galician mussels have been raised in aquaculture for several generations. Farms are concentrated around five major estuaries, the Rías Baixas. This cultivation method is based on bateas, floating platforms fixed to the bottom made of (mainly) eucalyptus wood with a side length of 25 m, which carry a maximum of 500 ropes with the mussel fry until they are ready for harvest. Since the mussels never come into contact with the ground, they are completely sand-free. The harvest in these near-natural aquacultures takes place without any significant impairment of the marine fauna.

The squid family includes squid, octopus and cuttlefish. They are usually about 30 cm long and weigh up to 5 kilos. Their delicate arms are particularly popular in the kitchen, as is the black ink they use to surround themselves when threatened. It can be used to color pasta or rice. Their flesh is firm and lean and tastes good raw (e.g. as sushi), briefly cooked, seared, grilled or deep-fried.

Details
