The Conserveira "Pinhais" is a family business that was founded in 1920 in the small fishing village of Matosinhos near Porto. Today, almost 100 years later, the company is still family-owned under the leadership of Dr. Antonio Pinhal and is one of the most renowned canned fish manufacturers in the country.
True to the company motto "quality over quantity", Pinhais & Co. Ltd. still worked using traditional methods, with very little done by machines and most of the work done by hand, which is a rarity today. The olive oil is of very good quality as the Pinhais have their own olive grove in Trás-os-Montes.

The ancient Romans already valued sardines and consumed them in salted, marinated or smoked form. In order for the human organism to be able to absorb all of these valuable nutrients, it is essential that the sardine is marinated in high-quality olive oil, because only this oil allows the human organism to break down and metabolize it.
