A very successful combination: this creation opens with a delicate lemon note that beautifully underlines the sardine without dominating it. The chili peppers complement the composition in a subtly spicy (not hot) way, resulting in a very balanced, fresh combination.
The freshly caught sardines are hand-pickled in pure, cold-pressed olive oil with a slice of confit lemon and whole chili peppers.
The result is also a real eye-catcher: the sardines lie like pure silver in the golden oil - makes a very good original appetizer and decorates every table!

”Les Mouettes d'Arvor” is the premium brand of Conserverie Gonidec, a family business founded in 1959 and now managed by husband and wife team Jacques and Valérie Gonidec. Gonidec is the only company in Concarneau that still makes its canned fish the traditional way. The fish (sardines, mackerel, tuna, anchovies) are caught off the Brittany coast, carefully selected, transported to the factory overnight and immediately processed there. There they are cleaned by hand and sorted by size, then fried in oil and placed in the cans by hand.
This traditional production gives the fish an incredible aroma and firm flesh. With the exquisite combination of quality, taste and tradition, "Les Mouettes d'Arvor" have enjoyed a high reputation for 50 years.
Each year, the company releases several specially designed vintage sardine tins that are coveted by collectors.

Even the ancient Romans valued sardines and ate them salted, marinated or smoked. To this day, the sardine is and will remain a high-quality product if the quality and production methods are right. Thanks to their short lifespan, they have absorbed very few pollutants from the sea and have a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and trace elements. 100g of sardines (about 8 fish) contain 40% of the recommended daily dose of calcium and 100% of the vitamin D necessary to absorb the trace elements. In order for the human body to be able to absorb all of these valuable nutrients, it is essential that the sardine is preserved in high-quality olive oil, because only this oil allows the human body to break it down and metabolize it.
For the sake of enjoyment, however, you should definitely not do without the many other great creations from the incomparably rich range of flavors of canned sardines: sardines in a fruity sauce, in white wine, in butter, with water and lemon... try it out!
The sardine is still the linchpin of many port cities in Brittany, but also in Spain and Portugal. Fortunately, however, it is not in danger of extinction and can be enjoyed without regret.
